Trekking Meets Technical Climbing
Mount Kenya is a beautifully dramatic extinct volcano situated right on the equator. It offers an entirely different experience compared to Mount Kilimanjaro due to its uniquely jagged peaks and stunning tarns.
The mountain presents climbers with a distinct choice. For strong hikers, Point Lenana at 4,985 meters provides an incredibly rewarding and challenging trekkers summit. You will navigate through dense bamboo forests, cross sweeping moorlands, and walk among the iconic giant senecios.
For experienced mountaineers, the true summits of Batian and Nelion await. These peaks require advanced multi pitch traditional rock climbing skills. 6Summits applies our trademark safety protocols and expert guiding teams to ensure your success on either objective.

The Best Mount Kenya Routes
Each trail offers a unique perspective of the mountain. Your choice will dictate the scenery, the gradient of your ascent, and your overall acclimatization experience.
Sirimon Route
4 to 5 DaysThe most popular and arguably the most accessible approach. Approaching from the northwest, Sirimon offers a gradual ascent through beautiful forest and rich alpine heath. It is an excellent choice for acclimatization.
Chogoria Route
5 to 6 DaysOften considered the most magnificent and dramatic route on the mountain. Approaching from the east, Chogoria features stunning views of the Gorges Valley and crystal clear tarns. It is slightly longer and highly rewarding.
Naro Moru Route
4 DaysThe fastest and most direct route to the summit area. Naro Moru approaches from the west and is famous for its steep sections and the notorious vertical bog. We often use this fast trail for descent rather than ascent.
Need to Know Before You Go
Best Time to Climb
The optimal weather windows fall during the dry seasons. We highly recommend planning your climb between January and March, or from July to October, to ensure clear summit mornings and stable climbing conditions.
Technical vs Trekking
Point Lenana requires no technical skills, just excellent fitness and determination. Batian and Nelion require extensive experience in multi pitch traditional rock climbing and rope management.
Altitude Adaptation
Mount Kenya demands respect. Altitude sickness can impact any climber regardless of fitness. Our expert guides strictly monitor your pace and enforce a gradual ascent profile to maximize your chances of reaching the summit safely.
